The Director of M&MoCS Center, Prof. Francesco dell‘ Isola is pleased to invite participation in the online seminar organized by Canadian National Committee for IUTAM, the MeMoCS Center of the University of L ‚Aquila, and the McGill University.
The webinar will be held by
Professor Zdeněk P. Bažant
on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at 3 pm CET
„Gap Test Consequences for Quasibrittle Fracture Mechanics, Scaling and HRR Theory of Metal Fracture“
Prof. Bažant will propose a fundamental change in fracture mechanics. Showing that the crack-parallel stresses (σxx, σzz, σxz,) can change the material fracture energy by about ±100 %, he concludes that the line crack models (LEFM, XFEM, cohesive crack model) are usable only if these stresses are negligible. In general, a tensorial damage simulation of a fracture front with finite width is necessary.
